From April 1, 2025, Sapporo City will expand its medical subsidies for children from up to 15 years old to up to 18 years old (age cut-off is the end of academic year (March 31)).
■Details of the subsidy

With the subsidy, you will only be charged for partial medical fee as follows (applies to both outpatient and inpatient visits):
・¥580 – Medical fee for first visit
・¥510 – Dental fee for first visit
※Other insurance used to cover fees such as return visits and prescriptions will be free of charge.
■How to apply for the subsidy
Prior application is necessary to receive this aid. Please apply at the time of the Registration of Birth, or when you move into Sapporo City. There is an income-based limit on aid. If your application is approved, you will receive the Child Medical Expense Subsidy Card called a “pink card”. Please show this card every time you visit a medical facility.
Be aware that pink cards expire at the end of each July.
Sapporo City confirms the parental income of each child with a pink card every July. If your child is eligible, you will receive a new pink card by the end of July. If not, you will receive a letter explaining.
