NPO SEMI Sapporo (“SEMI” or “we”) values its relationship with all users of its website and is committed to protecting their privacy rights. Accordingly, SEMI has established the following privacy policy pursuant to Article 3 of the Act on the Protection of Personal Information, which states that “personal information shall be handled carefully in accordance with the principle of respect for the personality of the individual”. “Personal information” carries the meaning specified in the Act on the Protection of Personal Information.

We will promote the protection of personal information by establishing a system to ensure that all regular members of SEMI are aware of privacy’s fundamental importance. Furthermore, to ensure that they are taking all necessary measures to ensure the protection of personal information.

Management of Personal Information

In order to keep our clients’ personal information accurate and up-to-date, as well as to prevent unauthorized access, loss, damage, falsification, or leakage of personal information, we will implement all necessary safety measures, such as maintaining a security system, developing an information management system, thoroughly educating SEMI’s members on the protection of personal information, and strictly managing personal information.

Our website contains links to other websites. We have no control over, and are not responsible for, the acts, content, or privacy policies of such other websites.

 

What Information Do We Collect and Why?

We do collect ‘cookies’ and use that information to continually make our website more user-friendly. The information collected by our website is anonymous, such as the number of hits per page. We collect personal information from clients only in our roles as translators/interpreters, and only to assist our clients. We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer our clients’ personal information to third parties.

When we receive an inquiry from clients, we may ask them to provide us with their personal information, including their name, email address, and telephone number. The personal information received from clients will only be used to respond to inquiries from clients, to provide information on our services, or to send emails or materials to clients.

In order to promote and preserve a safe and harmonious community, SEMI may retain personal information internally in the event that a client assaults, uses abusive language towards, or otherwise harasses one of SEMI’s members or anyone else. In this case, SEMI would retain that client’s personal information for the sole purpose of refusing future services to him or her.

 

Disclosure of Personal Information

SEMI will appropriately manage each client’s personal information and will not disclose personal information to any third parties except in accordance with the following circumstances:

  • when the client has consented to the disclosure;
  • in order to facilitate the provision of medical services requested by the client; and
  • as required by law.

 

Inquiry by the Client

If a client wishes to confirm, correct, or delete his or her personal information, we will act in accordance with the client’s request after first confirming the client’s identity.

 

Compliance with and Review of Laws and Regulations

In addition to complying with Japanese laws, regulations, ordinances, and other standards applicable to personal information, we will review the contents of this policy from time to time and make efforts to improve it.*1 If we update this policy, the below modification date will likewise be updated.
