Postpartum Health Checkups

In the immediate postpartum period, your mind and body balance can be easily disturbed by rapid hormonal changes and the unfamiliar tasks of parenting.

So please check your mental and physical condition at a checkup and consult a doctor or midwife if you have any concerns.

Eligibility

Postpartum women who are registered residents of Sapporo from the day of their checkup.

＊Postpartum checkups received in the event of stillbirth or miscarriage are also covered.

Health Checkup Contents

Medical interview, consultation, blood pressure measurement, weight measurement, urine analysis, mental health checkup, etc.

*Examinations other than those listed above, treatments, and medications, as well as medical checkups for babies, are not covered by public funds.

Subsidy Details

Up to 5,000 yen per checkup will be subsidized, up to twice per person. (At around 2 weeks and 1 month postpartum)

＊Any amount exceeding the limit is to be paid by your pocket money.

＊The subsidy is available for visits within 8 weeks after delivery. (After this period, the subsidy will no longer apply.)

＊Please consult your doctor or midwife on how many times you need to visit.

How to Receive Postpartum Health Checkups

A medical checkup voucher is required to receive a postpartum checkup.

You will receive a postpartum checkup voucher from the Health Center when you report your pregnancy. Please bring the postpartum checkup voucher to a medical institution or midwife center for a checkup. The postpartum checkup voucher may not be accepted at some medical institutions and midwife centers, so please make inquiries in advance.

If you have reported your pregnancy by March 2024 and have not been issued a postpartum checkup voucher:

– If you are to receive a medical examination at a medical institution in Sapporo, please consult with the medical institution.

– If you are to receive a medical examination at a medical institution outside Sapporo in Hokkaido, reimbursement will be made, so please click here. (in Japanese)
